Project Description: Major Appliances

Design Team: Cesaroni Design & Igloo

The joint efforts of Cesaroni Design and KitchenAid helped bring this new product to the major appliance industry. Aesthetics and ergonomics played a vital role in the design and development process to create the look and feel of this new appliance.

Cesaroni Design fine tuned the aesthetic design by generating a series of concept sketches and renderings. Working as a team, aesthetic design evaluation narrowed down the design options to a single design concept.

The industrial designers achieved simple and clean aesthetics by the faceting of clear areas and use of metal accents in strategic locations. A manufacturing process not commonly found in refrigerator shelving design is the encapsulating of glass in an injection molded frame. This design strategy improved the ease of cleaning.

Temperature control development enhanced the user centered design. A thumb wheel knob is easily accessible at the front of the deli drawer making for user friendly interface.
