Get Set Chair
Design Team: Cesaroni Design & Allsteel Inc.
Cesaroni Design collaborated with the Allsteel product development team to create a multi-functional office furniture line consisting of chairs, tables and presentation boards.
The project began with the design team visiting office spaces to interview personnel, maintenance employees and facility planners. From the product research, the team concluded that most offices have multifunctional spaces that change many times a day. There is, however, a lack of flexibility inherent in most office furniture systems.
The chair is ergonomically designed to be comfortable to sit in for four to six hours. The lightweight design allows for stacking without heavy lifting. Nesting capability makes the new product compact for storage.
Materials evaluation played a large role in the development process of the chair design. A heavy coil spring permits the back of the chair to flex naturally and support regular shifts in seating posture. This tension device is located in the welded steel frame to retain the aesthetic design. Its ventilated back is made from gas assist glass-filled nylon. This manufacturing method allows for strength in thick sections and flexibility in thin sections. The chair arms are made of glass-filled injection molded nylon.
This product design earned an IDEA Bronze, Good Design Award and Top Honors by the Society of Plastics Industry.
