Design Team: Cesaroni Design & Shure

Cesaroni Design joined the new product development team at Shure Incorporated to create a microphone for professional studio recordings and live productions.

Our new product design and development process began with competitive research to identify trends in electronic applications. We started experimenting with 3D computer modeling early on in the development process due to the sculptural nature of the form. Our product designers generated multiple concepts and received feedback from Shure's management team. In response to our client's feedback, we refined the selected concept as necessary for the final design.

The product designers implemented a new aesthetic approach compared to the chronically perpendicular lines and oversized look of competing products. Dramatic contours feature smooth sweeps along the stem.

The design team achieved this aesthetic design through the minimization of fasteners and integration of the stabilizing band into the overall structure. Recessed threads into the underside create visual smoothness. Dual logos are applied to both sides of the microphone for brand recognition in multiple orientations.

This product is designed for quality manufacturing and durability. The amount of damage during drop tests was minimized by casting, machining and polishing the enclosure, and riveting the stabilizing band.
