Digital Innovations felt there was an opportunity to create a new consumer product to repair damaged discs. Working as a team with our client, we developed a handheld device to repair primary causes of playback problems in all CD size media.
We began the project by investigating user features in products that utilize a similar radial mechanical function, such as fishing reels, hand mixers, etc. Our designers built several breadboard models to maximize both function and user friendliness.
The handle is angled to allow the wrist to rest in a natural position during operation. The diameter of the handle is contoured to fit all hand sizes. The thumb and index finger grip on the operating crank is sculpted for non-slip operation.
Cesaroni Design's product designers utilized the same snap on holder as designed on CD jewel cases to place the disc into the device. This design strategy made for ease of use.
This new consumer product has earned numerous awards including, Design Distinction from I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review, Best of Show from CES Innovation, Accessory of the Year from PlayStation Magazine and a Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum.
