Gendex Dental Systems (KaVo)
Orthoralix® 8500 Panoramic X-Ray Unit
Gendex Dental Systems and Cesaroni Design product designers developed this diagnostic imaging product. The engineering was handled by our client, while we focused on optimizing a lightweight structure. We worked closely with our client's engineering team to understand assembly and service requirements.
Multiple medical product design concepts were generated, all of which satisfied the project objectives. We then implemented the chosen concept in 3D CAD. The resulting part files were shared with Gendex's development team for further review.
The adjustable telescopic column is one of the most significant elements of the design. This component makes the unit extremely compact. It also enables the system to accommodate patients of all sizes, including children and wheelchair-bound patients.
Ergonomic diagrams assisted the development team in analyzing the design for the handlebar and chin rest so that the patient is held in a stable and comfortable position. Molded polycarbonate and carbon fiber patient supports are mounted on powder-coated handlebars.
The new product design increases workflow, giving the operator the ability to access mouthpieces and other accessories strategically located behind the handlebar in a rotating storage drawer. Interface elements and electronic controls were developed for ease of use.
The new design of the pressure-formed housing reduces the weight of the product, making it one of the lightest units for the medical industry. Pressure-forming offered low tooling costs and faster speed to market than injection molding. The housing facilitates an effortless assembly in the manufacturing process and installation procedure.
The dental product design earned numerous awards, including a MDEA Silver award, Good Design award and a Multi-Part Enclosure award.

Natural Choice Design Team:
Ion® Drinking Water Appliance
Natural Choice and Cesaroni Design redefined conventional freestanding water coolers with the introduction of this new appliance. The product design process focused on developing a compact appliance for office or home use.
Design exploration began with concept color renderings to assist the design team in evaluating forms, color options and product graphics. The design direction was narrowed down to one distinctive form with three color selections.
The new product is constructed of an injection molded ABS enclosure with an internal steel frame. The appliance connects directly into a tap water supply. This design element eliminates the need to continually replace a reservoir.
The product automatically dispenses filtered drinking water either cold, sparkling (carbonated) or hot. The product features two control panels both ergonomically placed for easy viewing. The touch panel is rear-screened graphics on polycarbonate. The filter is easily accessible by opening the front access door.
The new product was recognized with an EID Silver award from Appliance Design Magazine for the new appliance design.

Life Fitness
T-Series Treadmill
Cesaroni Design joined the Life Fitness development team to create a new consumer cardio product. The project goal was to develop the look and feel of the new product focusing on user activity.
The project team interviewed and observed users of consumer cardio treadmills to arrive at the right product design specification for the new machine. Based on research results, the design team developed a two part console. Full scale styling models were developed to aid the design team in the new console development. Model testing evaluated ergonomic and user interface applications.
This design approach to user activity is the first of its kind in the fitness industry. The upper console focuses on the touch and light elements of the user interface, and the lower console places the most used keys closer to the user. This lower console features oversized buttons that are shaped, lit and programmed for intuitive use.
This new consumer cardio product design earned numerous awards including an EID award, Good Design award and Premium Selection from Consumers Digest Magazine.
